Im so happy right now!!!! Poor Gethin has never been where the doctors/health visitors wanted him :-( As most of u know the idea of the weight and height charts are to give an indication of where your child is compared to others their age. Ideally they should be on the same line. Gethin never has been (not even close). As a premature baby he was small and very short. They didnt like him being so short or small. He gained weight very quickly but his height didnt really follow suit. So they werent happy with his height. Then he fed so well they werent happy with his weight being too large! And height to short. At one point he was on the 20th line for height and 97th for weight! Its fluctuated a lot but James and I have always stuck to what we thought was best for Gethin. We adapted his diet where we thought the doctors were speaking sense (weaned him early as he was a milk monster) and ignored other suggestions that we felt were not needed. Despite sticking together its hard, you are under pressure to do exactly what a doctor thinks, (even though different doctors have different opinions). Im very glad to say that yesterday he got measured and I was able to chart it today. He is on the 81st for his weight and 90th for his height. Thats pretty close to perfect! 1- I am thrilled that his lines are very close which means he has evened out and his height and weight match each other. 2- he has never had his height above his weight line, until now. 3- he was soooo low on his height for ages I am thrilled that he has caught up! My reason for going on about this is, its very close to my heart. I felt like it was my fault my baby was small and premature, then it was my fault his height wasnt improving, then it was my fault that he was too fat according to a particular person who will remain nameless. So please, feel free to share this or to tag someone in to this if u think they will get some comfort from it, especially if they have a premmy baby. All kids are different and these lines are guidelines which should be considered. But, be true to yourself and your baby as you know your child better than anyone else!!! My baby is now 3 and shining bright. He will try anything and eats everything so far (last week I couldnt say that but weve worked on his onion issues, lol). Just stick with it. Im not saying every child will be the same as mine but they WILL find their own line that their body is meant to be on, so please listen to doctors etc but also yourself and dont blame yourself! Its not your fault!
