Im so honored to have lead this Vigil for Michael Brown and all the victims of senseless gun violence and baseless profiling. This wasnt just a moment, its a movement. What we need to be focused on now is proactive steps to avoid tragedy X. If thats your focus too, let us know at [email protected] and include #DontShoot in the subject line. Next Steps: 1. The police need to explain how an unarmed individual can cause an armed officer to fear for his life enough to shoot him in the head from 35ft away. 2. Congresses in each municipality need to implement officer camera programs to keep police and citizens more accountable. Police will no longer be able to say the magic phrases such as feared for my life and he reached for my gun and expect to get off free because there is only one person alive to tell the story. 3. Black people need to control what we can control, and that is our own actions. We need to stop putting ourselves in positions that allow prejudiced individuals to make bad decisions. All progress takes personal sacrifice and the question becomes…. How much are you personally willing to commit to make sure this doesn’t happen again?
