Im so sick of ppl using speciesism to talk over anti-blackness and I advocate against speciesism! You cannot advocate for and applaud better treatment of animals, when that comes predominantly at the cost of continued systemic oppression of black people or a disregard of how they are being oppressed. Some examples of this: a black man was sentenced to a decade of incarceration for shooting a dog, a punishment that a white person would be so much less likely to suffer; also recently, an elk was killed by a cop and the cop was fired, punished by the legal system in other ways and the community held a vigil for this creature. In a context where black genocide is being waged, it is anti-black to advocate as if all people are given more rights than animals and to approve of harsher punishments for animal cruelty when they disproportionately affect black lives. In this context, when black bodies are left lying in the streets, killers of black people are getting away with murder left and right and black people are not even allowed to grieve in peace and/or their grieving is seen as controversial, that this elks killer was punished by the system and lost their job, while the whole community held a vigil for the elk, is appalling and perverse.
