Im so thrilled with the conversations with my kids, this morning. Particularly Sams grasping of the concept of wanting to do (or not do) something, vs. willingness to do it (because the rich inherent value seen behind it). He didnt want to put the dishes away when asked. But when I asked if, even though he didnt want to, was he willing, he pondered for a few minutes and got back to me with a yes, I AM willing. Before he started, I stopped him and asked why are you willing, Sam?. And he said, because I see how the dishes pile up when no one is willing to put them away. Putting the dishes away isnt fun, but its important, so we have a kitchen we can work in. YES. The richness of allowing learning to happen and inviting collaboration through curious dialogue instead of demands and compliance. Yes.
