Im sorry, but when I get reports like this, I have real trouble believing protestations that its only a fringe Islamic element perpetrating this kind of thing and that Islam is really a peaceful religion. I received this today from Duncan Smith, pastor of Catch the Fire in Raleigh, NC. Please pray as he requests: Apologies if you have received this news via Catch the Fire Toronto, but we have an urgent prayer request to share with you. Weve just received news from Terje Liverød (Leader of World Outreach Mission) that the violence has spilled over in Zinder, Niger Republic in West Africa. There was a demonstartion this morning where muslims gathered to protest against the non-islamic influence. The result of the protest was that a wild crowd attacked all the churches in Zinder (the second largest city). World Outreach Mission s headquarters in Niger, including church, offices, dormatory and bible school has been set on fire. All WOMs properties and buildings are now burning. All other churches are also reported burning. The crowds are shouting Kill the infidels, Kill the Christians. All Christians in the whole province are in great danger and most Christians have fled from Zinder. World Outreach Missions four foreign missionaries (Martin, Marcus and his wife and child) in Zinder are in hiding. Christian properties and private homes of Christians are burning. We have not heard of any of World Outreach Mission people killed but there are many many unaccounted for. Catch The Fire has been in partnership with World Outreach Mission for many years and have worked together with them to reach the unreached people of West Africa. Most recently Catch The Fire has been able to support World Outreach Mission by helping to purchase cattle for our local churches there, as well as purchase 2 new trucks to assist the teams with traveling the hundreds and thousands of miles through the desert to reach these people. These trucks are located at the base safe house in Zinder and may well be under threat too. We are sending this to all our friends to ask you to pray urgently for all our Christian brothers and sisters in Zinder, that the Father will protect them and do a great miracle. Please also pray that the Father will use this situation to bring about the greatest harvest in the history of Niger. Thank you for your prayers.
