Im sorry, the committee was blessed with the gifts of prophecy and foreknowledge enough to anticipate that Baylor would be up by twenty then have: 1) a field goal hit the right upright dead center 2) get fingers caught in a facemask on what would have been a long gain to set up a touchdown 3) have a player intercept a pass and return it for an apparent touchdown only to have a lineman behind the play run up on a slowing player from behind and push him to maintain balance and receive a correctly called push in the back penalty 4) then drive into field goal range and have a defensive back make contact with a low trajectory kick which would have probably been good and finally, 5) get their kicker blindsided by a targeting block to the head on the kick return which was not seen by the referees 6) and finally subsequently lose by 1 point. Sometimes, things just go awry. Ask Alabama about Auburn about 1.3 years ago. But, no one denigrated Alabama for losing to Auburn on the returned kick try. But small people want to gang up on Briles or Baylor because Briles, a well-paid coach, made a strong case for his team to make the playoffs when no one else would. I guess he was supposed to duck and run. Ohio State was not the best team in the playoffs. All the teams were very evenly matched, but on given days, sometimes a given team will not match up well with another. Ohio State made the most of their opportunity to their credit. If Baylor had won over MSU as convincingly as they played against the Spartans, people may have said they proved their worth. TCU played well in their game but matched up well with an overrated Ole Miss team that was weakened from injuries. But, subsequent events do not change the fact that PRIOR to the game outcomes, Baylor and Briles DID INDEED have a case against the CFB committee. Several national sports writers have said as much and I agree. A loss against WVU in Morgantown was NOTHING like losing to VaTech at home. I guess if Ohio State had used Jones instead of Barrett, they would not have lost that one. Well what dunces they were for taking a loss risking not getting into the playoffs. HIndsight being what it is. It is really not applicable. PRIOR to the final outcomes, the slightly less deserving team was awarded a place in the playoffs that it had not earned. But congratulations to Ohio State for taking advantage of their undeserved opportunity.
