Im sorry this video has been broken up into nine parts, but George - TopicsExpress

Im sorry this video has been broken up into nine parts, but George Lloyds magnum opus, his setting of The Vigil of Venus, has finally been posted. I know some of you dont like Lloyd because he sounds too retrograde (read: 19th century) and also sounds far too derivative (echoes of Berlioz, Verdi, some Elgar, some Delius), but this is one work that for some reason or another has a mark of individuality unlike any of his orchestral works. One could call it Delius meets Orff and Stravinsky in the shires, and those derivations are evident indeed, but there is something fresh about the way he uses his influences, and the material never outstays its welcome - in other words, he doesnt keep repeating the same tune over and over again. Its writing for the voices and its orchestration is masterly and colorful. My advice? Give it a listen. This may be the best thing the man composed and lived for all his life. https://youtube/watch?v=ByNhIr0MUFw&list=PL7dcwrhs6imkUEqVE9Llf2m69G-UfYmWF
