Im starting to really like painting on board. Its as smooth as you want it to be or texture can be added but I like the more smooth surface. I have been experimenting with this over a few paintings using a variety of board materials. At the moment Im using hardboard or MDF that I can cut up to the shape and size I want. I then sand it down on the smooth side and de-grease it with Meths. After this I give it 3 coats of white Gesso and also paint the back which stops it warping. Then its ready to paint on. Im also trying out different framing ideas and will post a photo of the next one when its finished.
