Im still busy with this pilates thing and have been super quiet, but I had to share this with errbodeh. This guy (Ido Portal) is an absolute G-dog, and he cant make material fast enough for me. Here he is talking about why always working in correct alignment isnt the best way to train for being good at movement. Being prepared for a situation where your shoulder suddenly doesnt work absolutely in one plane of movement, or your ankle rolls means training yourself (and especially your mind/neuromuscular system) to deal with it. Varied movement. As Katy Bowman calls it: Rainbow movements. Work in different joint angles and positions and ranges of motion. Always listen to your body and heed pain/discomfort signals, PROGRESS SLOWLY, but dont avoid changing things up. You are made of a trillion quadrizillion phgmegmamillion (I made that number up, I am not a maths god, I am Julien) individual cells, all capable of experiencing force and loads and adapting to them over time, creating tissues and organs and organ systems and your entire body. It wasnt designed to only do squats to 90 degrees or pushups with your hands in one perfect position. There is an optimal way to move for most of the time, and then there are the infinite other positions your body may find itself in during every day movement. You need to be able to move in those positions too. Let it move, it wants to move. First post onto Gymnats page! Its important for everybody who trains ever to watch and read this. Youre welcome.
