Im still in Florida with the family, but several people have sent - TopicsExpress

Im still in Florida with the family, but several people have sent me pictures of the Vote Yes flyers they have been getting in the mail. It is OK as far as it goes - Normans system for providing water does face challenges. The issue in this election, of course, is not WHETHER to do something about Normans water issues, but rather WHAT to do. The YES-path will have Norman continue to have rate-payers subsidize new development, devoting more of our water resources to relatively heavy users. (Given the subsidy here, the name of the group that put out the flyer is grimly humorous - working together, eh?) Several City Councilmembers have pointed out to me that only the rate-payer part of new water capacity is actually on the ballot; the new development part is a Council decision that it can make any time. True, but the Council has never charged new development the full cost of new water capacity and given the opportunity to do so they have kicked the can down the road. The whole reason why Norman votes on utility rates is to hold the Council accountable for its water policy! A NO vote would reset the terms of the discussion. Norman will get BETTER water policy if we emphasize fairness first and redress the imbalance of influence in City Hall (Council & staff). We wont really be working together as a community until we reject this proposal. #nountil
