Im such a plant lover, I feel almost traitorous admitting there - TopicsExpress

Im such a plant lover, I feel almost traitorous admitting there are a few I loathe. I spent a chunk of my morning yanking up two at the top of my most-loathed list from the backyard: Physalis alkekengi (aka chinese lantern plant) and Solanum dulcamara (aka woody nightshade aka bittersweet). The Physalis is thanks to a way-back neighbor who, the first year I lived here, decided she would just love an entire bed of it ... bordering my driveway. She moved away (which was okay, she was bad ju-ju) and I was left to deal with the Invasion of the Lantern Plants (not okay). The Solanum ... well, its very common, so I cant blame anyone except maybe birds. It does have interesting flowers. But not interesting enough to atone for swallowing other plants and shrubs in its woody, vining stems. BTW (1) some nurseries persist in selling these plants as decorative perennials - dont buy them, I implore you; (2) theyre poisonous; (3) interesting info at: perennials/plants/physalis-alkekengi.html
