Im sure I run the risk of being called mild biased and accused of under playing things by a minority of numbskills for daring to be sensible, but the UK is not on red alert for the risk of severe wintry weather. Just as there has been no 2010, 1963 or 1947 repeat this winter (shock horror!). From mid week will see a fairly strong north/north west flow develop. This will drag in some colder air and quite a few showers, which will turn increasingly wintry. There will also be the risk of icy stretches. Forecasting the detail with regards to snowfall is tricky more than a day or two out, with distrubtion of showers tricky to predict and conditions being marginal (i.e a thin line between rain and snow with some places seeing quite a lot of snow and others seeing little or none), but northern and western areas look likely to see most of these showers. This doesnt not mean that I am promising snow for these places, nor does it mean that there wont be any sleet/snow elsewhere. I know some people choose to read things a certain way rather than reading them the way they are written, and then having a moan at the forecaster for their own stupidity. So there you go. Some typical wintry weather in winter, like we used to have before the days of mass hysteria.
