Im sure every shelter/rescue, etc. have different policies - TopicsExpress

Im sure every shelter/rescue, etc. have different policies (feeding, shots, etc.), but wanted to give an account of what happened to me and my husband: **Thursday we picked up four 4-month old Cattle Dogs from a rescue in Modesto, nearly to Ceres and were driving them to Castro Valley, where the next transporter would be taking them on into San Francisco. The dogs were due to have their next series of shots on Friday, but they gave them their shots before we picked them up so the rescue in SF would not have to. Ive no idea if the shots did this, but we figured it at least contributed since the dogs were already scared and anxious but: **We went through nearly an entire package of doggie potty pads because I had to use them to clean up 1st - drool/bile, 2nd - diarrhea, 3rd - vomit and 4th- diarrhea and vomit. We had to pull over in Manteca, Tracy, top of the Altamont Pass and Livermore, which at that point I had no more wipes, so sadly the babies had to wait until we got to Castro Valley to get them out of the crate and the remaining yuck they left behind. I only hoped that they got it all out of them so the next lady did not have to deal with it on her way to San Francisco, with crossing a bridge and all. We always, always, always clean and sanitize the crates and the interior of our vehicles after a transport, since you’ve no idea what one of the fur babies could have and pass on. I know we have gotten lucky, as this was the first time it was truly this horrific for the babies and for us on the clean-up. Lost 2 blankets because of the diarrhea. Fortunately, one blanket was free from Kaiser as it was a hospital blanket that my mother in law had used and the other was only $5 from Harbor Freight (a nice moving/packing blanket). Valuable lessons: Bring MORE wipes and if you think you have enough, bring MORE! $3 blue tarp at Wal*Mart under the dog crate to preserve the rug. Bungee cords to strap the crates down to the child seat hooks. Kitchen garbage bags to throw stinky stuff away. Nitrile disposable gloves. Paper towels!!!!!!!!!!! Separate crates. Hand sanitizer. Air freshener.
