Im sure many of you remember Jax. He was found wandering around in someones yard back in May 2014. They reached out to us for help because of his severe skin condition. This little guy was so sick and tired that he barely wanted to move once he got to his foster home. He just wanted a comfortable spot to lay down and rest. His two front legs were deformed and completely flipped over (pads of his feet facing up) when he walked. After many months of treatment, love and good food, Jax improved greatly. His legs straightened out quite a bit on their own and now he walks on his toes with a slight bowlegged appearance. His energy level sky-rocketed and his JRT personality came out! He is a funny, sweet, spunky little dog. Although we saw great improvement he remained very scaly, stinky and flaky. We decided to have him seen by a veterinary dermatologist (not an inexpensive feat!). We are still waiting on a few test results, but the vet was pretty confident that it is Ichthyosis, which is congenital, chronic and incurable. We have Jax on a new regime of oral meds, omegas, twice weekly medicated baths, followed by a conditioner, and twice daily body mouse and we are trying a grain free chicken free diet. To say the least, this disorder is difficult to treat and will be a constant battle.
