Im sure there are lots of people who would dial suicide hot lines. Or go to a support group. Im just not one of them. And honestly, I have met many more people who arent than are. This doesnt mean these tools are not worth while. It just means the current interventions dont work for everybody. And we need a more diverse roster of support systems for people living with depression to actually say we as a society are doing all we can. But God forbid we look to our community and friends for support. God forbid we consider humanity as a viable intervention to folks feeling overwhelmed by sadness. God forbid we accept some of the responsibility of *actioning* our love and compassion for others a bit more.
