Im terrible at math, but good for remembering dates, birthdays and anniversaries as a rule. That said, the 20th anniversary of when I started my long running V:TM chronicle is next week. How am I commemorating the event? Well, Im not. Im not running anything right now, and Im in touch with maybe two players from the old days, so there wont be much of a fun reunion dinner or anything. No special event, no great toast around a table, nothing at all, really. Fair enough, though. Who besides the original ST is going to be moved by it now, anyway? Everyones moved on. Me, I still enjoy the hobby in general. While Ive had a grand and unique experience running that chronicle all of these years, lets face it - its probably not worth the energy to worry myself toward some key event to salute it all. I think its really only significant to me. Hey, its all just a game in the end. Still, how many people have run a game for twenty years, with such a diverse cast as Ive had at the table? Theres still something to be said about a creative medium that can, when run well with the right people, be more engrossing than any TV show, movie or book youve read. There are still so many people who wont enjoy the adventure of navigating complex stories from the first person perspective. For my part, I suppose next Weds night, Ill pop open a cold soda and listen to Sympathy for the Devil by GnR come 10 PM - the old game time I used to host at with the song I used to close every evening with. Once the song ends, Ill set the soda down and move on. Its not glorious as spectacle goes, but if Im only going to salute it myself, Ill keep it personal. I have no problem with that. Heres to some old times. Cheers, gamers of old.
