Im the worlds easiest to please dinner guest or restaurant patron! I have never had a bad meal. I think this may be because I, like my dad, was born without a sense of smell. Hold a rag soaked in gasoline to my face and all I would know is that the rag was wet. I dont compare this in seriousness to blindness or deafness, but it is a basic sense that I do not possess. The down side is, I cant smell flowers or perfume; the up side is I cant smell rotting garbage, either. The only sometimes irritating problem is that I cant tell when food has gone bad, and must ask others to take a whiff of anything suspect from the fridge. I think this olfactory deficiency may impact my ability to detect nuances of taste, seasoning, etc., which means gourmet cuisine is wasted on me. Friends who are food aficiandos -Bob Morris, Rona Gindin, Pam Brandon, Scott Joseph and others -- how important do you consider the ability to smell to be when evaluating food quality? If you could not smell, could you tell a good meal from a bad one?
