Im trying to identify this cap that my grandfather won/was awarded - TopicsExpress

Im trying to identify this cap that my grandfather won/was awarded in 1917. He was in the Leinster Regiment from 1912 to January 1918 (initially in the 4th Bn as he joined at Maryborough), after which he was transferred to the 6th Connaught Rangers just before the German Spring Offensive. After 1922, and the Connaught Rangers disbandment, he transferred to the Suffolk Regt where he remained until 1936. He rejoined in 1938, was commissioned as a Lt (QM) and, due to ill-health, left the Army in 1945. I presume that the cap was for sport. He was an all-round sportsman and for a time during the Great War, an army gymnasium instructor. Amongst other things he was an athlete, he boxed, played football/hockey etc. The cap is in the possession of a family member. Any help gratefully received!
