Im trying to make people aware of a sad situation happening to one of our local businesses. Ive sent the information that follows to the DBA. If anyone has a suggestion for other places I might send it to please let me know. I just cant ignore this. Thank you! To the DBA: Hello, Id like to make someone at the DBA aware that one of our local businesses has had a smear campaign brought against it by a group of people in the FB group, Escondido Friends with Animals (I think thats the right name?), which is administered by *************. I want to make it clear that I do not work for this store. I simply feel this is egregious behavior and wanted to bring it to your attention. The Hawthorne Country Store, as you are probably aware, sells various poultry and other animals. They have also taken animals in when they had nowhere else to go, from people who were moving or otherwise unable to care for them. Within the last two weeks a young hen was purchased from the store when a patron noticed it was being ostracized by the others, being stood upon and pecked at. This is not uncommon behavior for chickens, hence the term pecking order. To my knowledge, this business does not, nor ever has, abused the animals in their care; in fact, they employ two full-time people who provide that care. Long story short, a member of this Escondido Friends with Animals group has caused a fervor, accusing the store and its employees of negligence and abuse, and further, are encouraging others in this group to report the store to Animal Control, whether they have even set food inside or not. They have made hateful statements about the employees at the store, and are generally trashing this business. All of this has happened without one visit to the store by the person who started the post, or any of those who are supporting it, to find out Hawthornes side of the story. This systematic bashing of a local business isnt right, especially when encouraged by another local business person, ***********. When I saw this happening I did my best to reason and ask the group to stop. I wasnt hostile or rude, and even commended the original poster on her compassion, but regardless the gang in this group shot many barbs my way and reported me to the Admin, **************. Within minutes I was blocked from the group. They did me a favor, quite honestly, but this certainly doesnt help Hawthorne Country Store. I can only assume that the hostility toward Hawthorne continues. The owner of the store has requested to join the group in an attempt to reach out, however *************** has seen fit to block the business as well as the owners personal FB account, so they have no way to defend themselves in this lions den. I have no vested interest here other than knowing that this is very wrong, and shows a very sad lack of responsibility on behalf of a community page that should support local business, not encourage one-sided attacks upon them. Its challenging enough to have a small business without this kind of slanderous activity. Thank you for considering this information. I dont know what, if anything, you can do to stop this but I felt this was a good place to start.
