Im very heartbroken to read that one of my favourite authors has passed away. I remember the first time I got introduced to his works. I was 17 years old and had just read Isabelle Alendes book (I forgot the title, but it was the one telling the story of People of the Mist who live in Santa Maria de la Lluvia, who were being deliberately exterminated by Americans through deliberate infection with the HI-virus), which Id gotten from my aunt Celeste Fortuin. I fell in love with Latin American writers after that book. I told my mom that Id like to read more Latin American writers and the following week, she came home with a second hand copy of One Hundred Years of Solitude. After reading that book, I deprived myself of nice things for months and bought an entire collection of Gabriel Garcia Marquezs books. To date, I have never been disappointed by any of his offerings. Thank you for giving to the world some of the greatest stories ever told. You have inspired us, among other things, to Love in a Time of Cholera. Your works will live on long after you are gone! Descance en paz, Marquez, escritor y amigo. Tendremos siempre te amaré!
