Im very proud of this group. In the adverse conditions we faced, it would have been understandable if we didnt even perform. As we entered the field, the the wind blew under the tarp at over 20 mph creating waves billowing about 10 feet high. When we finally sort of got it down, it was out of place by 5 yards. Our parents helped and we miraculously got it back in place. Meanwhile, the power running from the front sideline did not work. Luckily, I was able to start our generator and we were up and running. Throughout the show, the band members used great technique and made it look natural to march in a virtual ocean (note to self- future show idea????). We literally had parents laying on the sides of the tarp to keep it from flying away (HEROES). In the end, was it our best show? In all honesty, no. Were there some positive take aways? ABSOLUTELY! Balance wise, it was terrific. The electronics and vocals came through clearly and effectively. The timing of the percussion feature was the best its been all year. Even with all of our issues, we avoided a timing penalty. The performance window for each band is 15 minutes including set up and tear down. We finished in 14:59. And most importantly, these young men and women NEVER GAVE UP!!! The demonstration of character and perseverance was one that left me feeling like Ive taught these students something they can take with them their entire life. In the end, the Spartan Band members are winners in the game of life tonight. Regardless of where we place. Ladies and Gentlemen, its been a pleasure!
