Im very sad to hear about the passing of sportscasting pioneer Stuart Scott at 49 after 3 battles with cancer. I didnt understand much of the hip hop lingo Stuart Scott injected into his ESPN sportscasts over the years. It meant he was not one of my favorite anchors. This reflects my age and un-coolness as much as anything. But despite this lack of understanding, I did get that his use of language showed he was ahead of the curve, reaching out to GenYers and millennials when no one else was doing it. So he was a breakthrough sportscaster, which is saying something in this era of sameness and cliche. And the way he faced his battle courageously is reflected in this speech at this past summers ESPY Awards. I urge you to listen to it in full. Stuart Scott, RIP. Always as cool as the other side of the pillow. (I got and loved that line.)
