Im very thankful for the support and love that people have shown to me here on this forum through the years. I talk about my son Cullen a lot of the time. For 16 years now it has been a struggle. Cullen is my life. He is my life because he is dependent for all of his care and he is my life because I am constantly searching for ways to extend his life with health and happiness. I have shouldered this burden with strength but as he ages I become more and more aware that his time here on Earth becomes less and less. I dont feel quite so strong. I dont feel quite so positive or at peace. Cullen is now receiving hospice services because his doctors feel his time is drawing nearer. He is still going to school, we are still living life much in the same way we always have. We are being asked to consider how we will progress with his treatment in the light of his reality- there is no cure for what he has and his body is wearing down. With large tears in my eyes I repeat to the doctors, nurses, social workers and dear friends I do not want to prolong his life through extensive measures. I will let him go and be with God when it is his time. Thank you to the people who show me love and support. Thank you for the small gestures, kind words and simple likes of a photo or status. Your acknowledgment validates my sons existence. The thing that I have hated most is that people ignore him or look away. Please stare at him, please ask me questions. He is my treasure and a beautiful human.
