Im watching the news coverage of the protests in Ferguson, Missouri and wondering is this 2014 or 1963. Armored vehicles, gas masks, and dogs? I know that in the past, the demonstrations had largely been looting and rioting, but that doesnt seem to have been the case tonight. Is the media making this worse? Yes. Are the police overreacting? Yes. Is all the madness solving anything? No. I dont have much faith that the killing of the teenage boy that is the impetus for all of this is going to be resolved satisfactorily for anyone. Its kind of hard to justify shooting an unarmed person 6 times, but if what the officer says is true and the young man initially tried to wrestle the gun from him, then being shot at least once is not only a possibility, but an appropriate action. Truth is, well never know the truth. There are only 2 people that know, one is dead, and the other has every reason to spin things in his own favor. Both sides need to calm down, before something even worse happens.
