Im with two guys here and we just had a lunch with my former mentor whom is a billionaire, and theyre very excited. He joined the ranks of billionaires in 2011 when I was in 10th grade, and just to give you an idea of how wealthy he is, as of this year hes richer than Patrice Motsepe. Motsepes net worth is US$ 2.9 billion, and hes worth US$ 3.4 billion. I hate to admit this, but the first time I spoke to a billionaire in person I was excited my friend, and the first question I asked was how did he get there, and like most wealthy gentlemen he just said work hard. Not that I dont like that advice, I do tell people to work hard when I dont want to say much, but I personally think that by now everyone knows that hard work is a basic requirement in everything. So whenever I ask a successful individual how did they get to that point, Im not expecting that answer. Ive got family members and friends who worked hard their entire lives and they dont have that type of financial freedom. To get the answers that I want, I now ask specific questions. Just to make it clear, by saying a successful individual, Im not referring to someone who only has a lot of money. Success isnt only about that. Here Im talking about an individual who shows great spiritual growth, a certain level of intelligence, wisdom, and maturity. An individual with strong quality relationships, someone who is loyal to his spouse, responsible and has a great family. And on top of that he has attained financial freedom, while at the same time playing an active role in helping underprivileged people around the world to have better lives. Now thats success, or at least part of success. Specific questions I ask are very simple. Its questions like how did you acquire your wealth? How did you make your first 500 million, billion? Where did you first meet your wife? Which qualities did she have to know that shes the one? etc. You shouldnt ask like a journalist, but I hope you get the picture, let the conversation flow, then find spots where to place your questions, but be specific so that you can get specific answers. These two guys didnt get the answers that they wanted, because they didnt ask specific questions. But now they know better, hopefully theyll get a chance to meet another billionaire, and ask specific questions. I hope when you get the chance to chat with a successful individual, you wont make the same mistake.
