Im working on developing my song The Edinburgh Surprise into a play. At present trying to put into words the social issue Im trying to tackle. Recently someone wanted to screen the song in a Palestinian Solidarity event, but was threatened with boycott if he did. The rationale behind the boycott threat was 1)its crude- ok got it! and 2)The song portrays the Palestinian male as a rapist. Since then, Ive been getting many opposed opinions weather or not this is a song about rape and its brought up a lot of interesting debate into gender politics as well as Palestine-Israel politics.
