Im writing an article for Holistic Horse about alternative treatments for suspensory injuries. As bad luck would have it, I now have a second horse with a suspensory injury. The first one was insured and I went what my vet called the Big Mac route, meaning we used everything modern and cutting edge medicine had to offer, along with the dreaded stall rest. Stem cell, platelet, shock wave, steroid injections. $8k and a year and a half later, she was sound and has remained sound for four years. This horse is not insured and I dont have the $8k, so Im exploring other ways to help her heal, in addition looking for ways to make the dreaded stall rest less horrible for both of us. She is an exuberant TB mare who careens around the pasture just for the sheer joy of it while the other horses look at her like shes nuts So confining her to a stall will be a challenge. Has anyone out had any success with lasers, lights, homeopathy, acupuncture, magnets, vibrational therapy, dancing in the moonlight naked....anything, thats seemed to help both the healing and confinement to a stall?
