Imagine a cross training experience that helps human services - TopicsExpress

Imagine a cross training experience that helps human services professionals address the spiritual needs of their clients and at the same times helps orisa priests meet the psychological needs of their clients. Imagine human services professionals and orisa priests working hand in hand to address their psychological and spiritual needs in a systematic and comprehensive way. Imagine an open forum wherein human services professionals and orisa priests could share best practices and effective techniques. Think of the many ways this kind of partnership could benefit the people served. After all, a person has both psychological, as well as spiritual health. You cannot have one without the other and consider yourself complete. Consider, Carla for example. Shes a working single mother of two, who has never been in a sustainable relationship. At 37, she feels overwhelmed and burnt out. Eventually, she comes to me for counseling because she wants help in establishing better work/life balance. In addition, Carla is especially concerned about her son, Ayo, who is growing up fatherless. But on an even deeper level, Carla has a burning need to know WHY her life has developed this way. Because she is healthy, well-educated, attractive, and comes from a healthy family herself, she wonders if there are other - metaphysical - forces that are influencing her relationship status. A counselor who is unfamiliar with Orisa Lifestyle might humor Carla, or even go as far as believing that SHE believes that there might be a spiritual dimension to her unwanted single status. But a mainstream counselor is certainly NOT equipped with the training and skills to detect the ways in which Carlas relationship to her ancestors, her spiritual cohort or the divinities might be having an adverse impact on her family structure. Fortunately, because I have been trained as both a counselor and a ritual specialist, I can competently help Carla explore the spiritual dimensions of her earthly experience. Together, we can come to a mutual understanding of how much her problem is psychological and how much is spiritual. Based upon that understanding, we can now co-create a life plan that supports comprehensive development. At the Orisa Lifestyle & Mental Health Retreat, Chief Solagbade Popoola, Orland Bishop and Obafemi Origunwa will invite you to participate in a unique journey to the place where mental health and spirituality intersect. Our objective is to help you to live the medicine that will heal your life and the lives of the people you are destined to serve.
