Imagine if you will the stress that comes with driving a school - TopicsExpress

Imagine if you will the stress that comes with driving a school bus on a sunny warm day with 60 kids at your back all laughing and jumping around. Then, close your eyes and imagine that same scene on a dark foggy morning. A light rain makes the glare of the oncoming headlights blur your vision. It’s so dark that every trash can and mailbox looks like someone waiting for a ride. To make matters worse the home addresses are difficult to read or not listed at all and as you sit there with the red lights flashing numerous cars drive straight through without so much as a moment’s hesitation. The stress increases when you realize that you drove past a bus stop where the house was dark and no students were waiting, yet the dispatcher is asking you to turn around in the dark and go back. The parent on the other end is screaming at the office staff and the kids on the bus are mad because now they will be late if you turn around. Crank up the stress-o-meter a notch higher. Throw in a major winter storm that reduces visibility to about a bus length. Traffic is at a crawl, tires are spinning and emergency vehicles are racing to the next big crash. As the drivers creep through their routes trying to stay on time but knowing that slow and steady will win this race, an angry mother at the next stop is insisting that you give her “a good reason for arriving so late!” She is now late for work or a hair appointment – Wait! What day is this? The day that just got away from me…….. It’s time to go home and make a batch of brownies, a pecan pie, a chocolate cake with peanut butter frosting and some date pinwheel cookies. Or maybe I should make my favorite strawberry cream cheese cinnamon rolls. Desserts - STRESSED spelled backward. That’s just how we roll at the bus barn. Take it all in stride, keep the coffee pot on and eat dessert first! Jacquie Fase RPS Director of Transportation
