Imagine this. Imagine every anxiety you have ever had, about your home, your livelihood, your children, your wife, your parents, your belongings, about money, your health, your hunger, your community, about your worth, about survival. Imagine even further the added anxiety and fear about being pursued and managing to keep ahead of those who would indiscriminately kill you, while watching the elderly and children die around you from the climatic conditions subjected upon the exodus, having to leave them on a stoney plain with nothing but a few rocks placed around them. Imagine running in fear for your safety but being unclear where a safe refuge might be. Imagine that everything you knew has almost ceased to exist and is unlikely to return, imagine if you could not visualise hope to sustain yourself….imagine how your brain would want to burst. Now, multiply that pain and anguish by at least 400000 (numbers for this wave of displacement). That is what displaced people are experiencing here everyday, a collective pain. Just ordinary folk who up to only a few weeks ago were just living a peaceful life, doing peaceful and routine things. Would you last the distance? Could you cope? It is important to reflect on this reality. And, give thanks your reality is not theirs.
