Imagine this. You get in the shower. You soap up. You rinse off. - TopicsExpress

Imagine this. You get in the shower. You soap up. You rinse off. You have now cleaned the dirt off of you. Staying in the shower longer than it takes to rinse off the soap does not make you any cleaner...it only wastes water. Extend this concept to drinking excessive amounts of fluid in the misguided notion that it will detox the body more. It will not. Your kidneys, assuming they are functioning properly, will separate out whatever toxins (trigger word, I know) they can from the blood, where they will be put into the urine. Drinking a ton of water (or whatever else) will not change the amount that the kidneys put into the urine, just like standing in the shower longer after the soap is rinsed off will not make one any cleaner. It will only dilute the urine. On that note, with the drink more fluids to detox concept thoroughly embedded in massage therapy culture, I chuckle when I see the massage therapists next door to my office hustling to the bathroom between every. single. client. Since were on the topic, the definition of hydration: the quality or state of being hydrated; especially the condition of having adequate fluid in the body tissues. Note that nowhere does it say, hydration means drinking more water! There is a saying in chemistry/biology: Where Salt Goes Water Follows, or water follows salt for short. Why is this important? The big electrolytes in the body are all mineral salts (medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary/electrolytes, not just sodium!). This means that if one has mineral deficiencies/excesses/imbalances, it could only be expected that water would not flow in and out of their cells properly, resulting in poor hydration. The more you know....
