Imagine walking on Saturday Night from the Princess Theater north - TopicsExpress

Imagine walking on Saturday Night from the Princess Theater north on Donnley street with the narrow sidewalks up the hill and out past where the new fire station now resides. As you walked over the ditch near the Bible School, the entire environment changed, the trees grew closer to the road, and the sidewalks ended, so you walked on the edge of the road, trying to stay out of the grass and sand, As you walked on north, the dogs along the street would hear you and began their howling until more and more dogs announced or anticipated your arrival. As you turned on Old Eustis road, the moss draped lower to the road and moved in sync with the breeze or wind, and there was now a slight curb on the edge of the road except where they had run offs, and the edge of the road sloped down and you often stumbled as you stepped in these. Down the hill past the radio station and its flashing lights on the tower giving you some slight vision and when a car approached from ahead or behind, you were blinded for several steps before your eyes again adjusted to the darkness. As you made the left at the bottom of the hill, the frogs and gators from Lake Gertrude were so loud that the seemed to be on the road. You walked past the Merrys house which always had a light by the road and on around Lake Gertrude with the lake sounds getting louder as you got closer to the lake. Then, finally someone drove by and recognized you and gave your a ride the short distance on home. I wonder why they never came by a mile or so farther back towards town.
