Imagine what it would be like to be chained to a pole day and night, completely exposed to the rain and strong winds you can hear right now. Imagine being restricted to move and being forced to live in squalor as your ‘bedroom’ and ‘bathroom’ are all within arm’s reach. Imagine being starved of love, care and attention and knowing only fear. Imagine, being robbed of dignity with your body being used to breed at a rate severely detrimental to your health and well-being. As winter set upon Melbourne last year, for two-year-old Sissy, this was a daily reality and she wasn’t alone. Found in a puppy farm, Sissy and 11 other border collies were brought to The Lost Dogs’ Home North Melbourne Shelter in a distressing state. All were malnourished, covered in fleas and had fly bites all over their ears. They had matted coats, rotting teeth and had never been bathed. Some, including Sissy, were also pregnant. Each were given immediate and ongoing veterinary care, were bathed and groomed for the first time in their lives and in time provided behaviour rehabilitation. To read more about Sissys time at the Home and to help us turn around the lives of deserving animals this winter please visit bit.ly/1ja718J or by calling our fundraising team on (03) 8379 4429. Now adopted and adored by Karyn and her family, it can be said Sissy has lived two very different lives to date. “She makes you feel like you are the number one person in her life every time you are with her. We know she wasn’t given much of an opportunity to love and be loved, but she sure is making up for it now!” Sadly, Sissy represents just one of the over 6500 lost, neglected and unwanted dogs and cats we expect to care for this winter. Like Sissy, some will come to us in need of veterinary care and behaviour rehabilitation that is made possible only by your sheer generosity. By the end of this week, we need to raise vital funds that will help us care for animals like Sissy.
