Imagine you are going through life and someone puts a blanket over you, then another, then another until you cant see and your are smothered. People talk about the youth but these bold courageous young people have pushed through layers of oppression and are being heard. Yes, they are righteously angry. The question is why arent the rest of us? What can we do? If everyone did one small thing everyday to create change on multiple levels things we could REALLY change the world: Here is my list. Make art with kid, write a letter to a politician, attend a protest on police brutality instead of critique it on facebook, learn more about white privilege and systems of whiteness that oppress people of color, be open to always learning about your privilege because it can go deep, host a dinner party where your friends talk about race, class and privilege, extend your circle beyond your comfort zone, be informed by sources other than mainstream media, take food out to protesters and really listen to what they have to say, write a letter to your school board, compassionately challenge someone on their views, send a prayer to someone who tries to intimidate or scare you, laugh hysterically about a pumpkin protest then cry deeply because of the racism, hate and oppression that demanded you act, feel how hard this is but do no give into despair, choose to see one anothers humanity by seeing them as happy toddlers in their grandmothers arms no matter how old they are, do not defend that which should not be defended like human beings like Kajime Powell being given 28 seconds of consideration by police before being shot by two police officers 12 times. Refuse to be lulled into the the complacency that comes from societal disconnection. Gather and create. Be of service. Be a sensible person. Use your words and dont be nervous. You can do this youve got purpose. Find your medicine and use it!! There is so much we can do we just need to do it!!
