Imagine you get pulled over for a supposed busted tail light and the officer asks you how much cash you have on you. You tell him, confused by why he wants to know. Lets say youve got $1500 - its your rent money. He doesnt believe you. He thinks you might buy pot with it instead, so he takes it. You now have to hire a lawyer to prove your intent with that cash, which is damn near impossible, and will cost hundreds of dollars in legal fees. If you fail or give up, the police department gets to keep it and can spend it on whatever they want. Keep in mind you didnt even get a ticket when he pulled you over, and you were NEVER charged with any crime. Yeah. This is a legal thing called Civil Asset Forfeiture. How is this even constitutional? Its not. Lets spread awareness and speak up for reform against unreasonable seizure. This video sums it up nicely.
