(Imagineland) ‘Intelligent Life’ It was too late to save - TopicsExpress

(Imagineland) ‘Intelligent Life’ It was too late to save the habitat by the time we arrived. The inhabitants had already sealed their fate. They were rather primitive beings; their technology far exceeded their wisdom. It was interesting how the planet’s inhabitants viewed themselves. The survival of the smallest creatures was seldom contemplated and even as thousands of larger species began to disappear they continued to ramp up the environmental destruction as though it would have no effect on them; they accelerated their misguided efforts as though their lives depended upon it. When in actuality they were hastening their own extinction. To be fair, not all of the inhabitants were so UN-evolved. As time went on more joined the ranks of those who attempted to halt the devastation once it became glaringly apparent; but it was too little; too late. (Had they been in charge, this planet might have made it!) But the voice of the ‘Dominant-class’ made the decisions and drowned out the cries for help. And what did they gain in the end? Do they have any power now over the dust they have become? The most destructive life form on this planet (Homo sapiens) basically fell into three major groups; those whose survival was always in jeopardy; those one-step above; and a very small population that hoarded the bulk of the resources through which they enforced their dominance. They looked upon those who were being slowly annihilated with scorn as though they were a hindrance, seeing them as dirty-unkempt creatures that deserved their fate; pointing out how poorly they were taking care of themselves. Meanwhile the ‘Dominant-class’ were the ones who were really spewing filth into every crevice of the planet; turning it into a cesspool and leaving a path of destruction in their wake; considering themselves to be ‘Lords’ of all they saw because of their exalted positions. They polluted the water, the land, the air; they even spewed junk into space creating a flotilla that circles the planet. What folly! If only we’d gotten here in time to guide them through the age of technology; before they began to grasp the concepts of nuclear energy. They deceived themselves into believing they were wise enough to play with fire and never get burned (even though they knew they had no safe means of disposing of the waste or of keeping the reactors from decaying.) Primates really; children in their reasoning abilities, arrested in a primitive mental state. It truly makes you feel sorry for the poor deceived creatures; they had not yet evolved enough to recognize that maintaining balance is the key to survival. They left behind a digital record of their history though. We will catalog it and put it in the dead planet file. I wonder; even if we travel a Centillion light years, will we ever encounter a planet with intelligent life?
