Immigration officials finally investigate Emmanuel Geri’s (AKA Mwamba) Tanzanian origins January 28, 2014 | Filed under: Statements | Posted by: ZIN egSenior Immigration officials have formally commenced investigations to establish the roots of embattled former Information Permanent Secretary Emmanuel Geri who for a long time masqueraded as Mwamba after reports that the talkative and crooked journalist is actually a Tanzanian national. A source at the Immigration headquarters in Lusaka has told the Zambian Intelligence News (ZIN) that two teams have been commissioned to thoroughly investigate and establish how Geri who has hitherto carried himself as Mwamba entered Zambian and how he integrated. The two teams of officers are operating under specific terms of reference that will see them launch out in the deep to establish how Geri also known as Mwamba went about to fully integrate himself in the Zambian society and the procedure that he followed to alter his name from Geri to Mwamba. The immigration source has told ZIN that preliminary investigations have conclusively revealed that Geri who is a fluent speaker of Swahili and other Tanzanian languages was surnamed Geri up to a certain point and that he used connections around the country to integrate into the Zambian society and altered his name. Part of the findings at preliminary stage have also indicated that the former information PS does not have any siblings who carry the name Mwamba and that he is not able to point to any village in either Muchinga or Northern province of Zambia as his origin and that he must have fraudulently given himself the name Mwamba because of his acquired fluency in the Bemba language through being illegally domiciled in the republic of Zambia. The two investigative teams are expected to come up with more specific findings as to how Geri entered Zambia and how he has managed to dupe his way even to the extent of holding public office. When pushed to indicate the possible punitive measures that Geri may face at the end of the investigation, the source said the Chief Immigration officer will seek advice from the DPP to see if any charges will be preferred against Geri but that deportation is certainly a must for him.
