Impasse Between Pensacola City Council and Mayor dates back more - TopicsExpress

Impasse Between Pensacola City Council and Mayor dates back more than two years to 15 May 2012 memo in which the mayor ordered council members to go through him for any access to city staff. Councilwoman Maren DeWeese says at the meeting following the memo that the joke is that citizens have more access to information than the members of council. Even Councilman Larry Johnson got into a huff about this outrageous usurping of mayoral power. But the council did nothing to change the situation, and this led to the indulged whim of the mayor to fire the councils executive Lila Cox without any notice to council. It took two years for council to finally decide enough is enough and to place the two Charter amendments on the ballot, one that would make all locally elected officials, including the mayor, subject to recall - and the other to give the council the authority to hire its own staff.
