Importance of consultation and its process Khatib Baghdad: has narrated the following statement of Sayyidina Ali : I asked the Holy Prophet that if, after you we face a situation about which neither the Quran has any specific ruling, nor have you given any direction, how should we proceed? The Holy Prophet replied by saying, In such a case, assemble Abidin (the worshipping people) of my Ummah, and decide the matter by mutual consultation; do not take decision on any individuals single opinion. (Rul-Mani, referring to Khatib) In some versions of this narration, the word Fuqua (jurists) also appears along with Abidin (the worshipping people) which means that the jurists who have understanding of the religion and worshipers are the ones who should be consulted. Baihaqi has narrated from Sayyidina Ibn Umar & that the Holy Prophet has said, Anyone who intends to do something, and he takes that action after consultation, Allah would guide him towards the best possible option. Ma’ariful Quran Volume 7, Pg. 698: (Tafsir for Surah 42:37) As Salaamun Alaikum My Muslim family We have to come together to stop this abuse that is affecting our future generations of children and mothers. Enough is Enough! I am especially reaching out to the Muslim Community at this time, but as Muslims, we do not just think of ourselves, but also others, as it is stated in the Quran: “Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts together [for Islam] and for freeing captives [or slaves] and for those in debt and for the cause of Allah and for the [stranded] traveler - an obligation [imposed] by Allah. And Allah is Knowing and Wise.” FREEING CAPTIVES: Individuals who have caught behind enemy lines; Individuals who have been caught in the grips of addiction; Individuals who are held hostage and abused in relationships; Individuals who are being held against their will from traveling to a safer environment. TRUE STORY A Muslim woman was beaten and left with horrendous damage to her face and body. She lost her baby that she was carrying at the time. She then went to the Masjid for support and for assistance. She was told to go home and be a good Muslim wife. She was told that Muslims don’t go to the Government for assistance. The brother was spoken to by individuals and nothing else was done. The same brother remarried and beat another Muslim sister and her daughter also. Both went to the hospital and the brother was arrested. First and foremost, the brother should have been given an option of getting help, going to jail, or getting lashes and then divorce. The sister should have been given the options of getting assistance for psychological damages, financial means for damages, option to file charges, and an option to have him listed as an abuser within the criminal justice system. I too have been in court for a situation dealing with a female and I know that it is not always what it may seem to be from the women’s point of view. I lost my job and apartment due to the incident. In court I agreed to have the restraining order placed against me because I didn’t know I could have placed one against her until later. But, this was the tool that kept her from seeing me which kept me from being a victim of her promiscuous mind games. My mother was beaten until she became paralyzed by my coward father. My wife’s story, before she met me, is a story I can’t tell because it hurts so bad just to think of it…as well as other family members of mine! I do not believe in hitting women and I do not believe in getting hit either. I believe in leaving the situation before it becomes a situation! I have always and will always be an advocate for women, children, disabled people and elderly people who are abused! Believe that! We at Al Maidah Inc. are giving this event to strategize against all Faith-Based organizations that do not support against Domestic Violence, Child Abuse and Elderly Abuse! Let me be clear by what I mean as SUPPORT! A 24 hour hotline for women who may need extraction from violent men Certified Social Workers, Crisis Intervention Specialists, Anger Management Specialists, Psychiatrists and Clinics Specific funds set aside for women and children who are escaping harm A food pantry Child Psychiatrist Psychological and Criminal Screening for all men and women who wish to be married Legal Aid HIV/STD testing Advocacy Programs: For PLWHA Domestic Violence Child Abuse Elderly Abuse Re-Entry from Incarceration There will be a petition designed for these issues that will specifically affect Faith Based institutions who have seemed to slide under the radar from responsibility to the community in these issues of importance. The petition will be carried all the way to the highest levels for attention and to be passed as a bill. I am expecting the Muslims…to be first and foremost to sign the petition and stand firmly for justice. Hopefully we can get it to an international level. “And what is [the matter] with you that you fight not in the cause of Allah and [for] the oppressed among men, women, and children who say, Our Lord, take us out of this city of oppressive people and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper? “And if two factions among the believers should fight, then make settlement between the two. But if one of them oppresses the other, then fight against the one that oppresses until it returns to the ordinance of Allah. And if it returns, then make settlement between them in justice and act justly. Indeed, Allah loves those who act justly.” “Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct and giving to relatives and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.” “O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.”
