Important Notice: This week begins the public debates sponsored by Stetson University and the Daytona Beach News Journal for the three County Council Races. The times and dates are: Tuesday August 5th – The Brannon Center 105 South Riverside Drive, New Smyrna Beach County Council Dist 3 race – Deb Denys, Justin Kennedy and David Machuga Wednesday August 6th – Stetson University’s Lynn Business Center, Rinker Auditorium, 345 N. Woodland Blvd, DeLand - County Council At Large, Webster Barnaby, Joyce Cusack and Pat Northey Doors open at 5:30 with debates beginning at 6:30. These debates are very important to us for many reasons. I want to encourage all of us to go and be represented by wearing Red shirts or hats. This is not only an opportunity for us to hear the views, but for the public, media and the candidates to see how organized we are. Also, we need to be prepared to show up for any further debates sponsored by our good friend and supporter Henry Fredrick in the News Smyrna area. Keep in mind, this is only the primary and odds are that several of these campaigns, if not all, will go into the general election. We need to go in force and be recognized. However, please, let all of us be on our best behavior. No name calling or ranting or being anything less than professional and respectful at all times. This is a good start to our future together. So let’s do this and let the public see us as the determined people we are. I am attending to see exactly who says what in this public venue so we can get to the bottom of 3 very different but equally important questions: 1) Who is with us in our effort to give the people a vote before the county can remove more beach driving? 2) Who is with those that want to use some arbitrary “standards” that can never replace what would be lost in an effort to legitimize the theft of our beach? 3) Who just wants to try to fence sit and just keep that decision power for themselves? Join me this Tuesday night in New Smyrna Beach to see the first one and see what happens.
