*Important Road Closure Information* GOLD COAST AIRPORT MARATHON 2013 | Gold Coast Police are reminding motorists of changed traffic conditions ahead of the Gold Coast Airport Marathon on the weekend. It is estimated around 29,000 people will attend the event, to be run over Saturday and Sunday. All events start and finish at the Southport Broadwater Parklands. The course for the Marathon, which will be held on Sunday, extends to the Esplanade at Burleigh Heads. Police have been working with other stakeholders to ensure the marathon and associated events are conducted safely and with minimum disruption to traffic. Motorists are urged to avoid traveling along the route over the two day event. Delays can be expected and police are urging motorists to watch out for competitors. “Approximately 100 officers will be policing the 2 day event accompanied by 200 marshals to ensure public safety and to minimise disruption to local residents and businesses as much as possible during the event,” Major Events Group Inspector Barry Day said. SATURDAY ROAD CLOSURES: 3.30am to 11am Full road closure of the Sundale Bridge, Southport from 0615hrs to 0650hrs as required under the direction of Police. Full road closure of the following roads: • Marine Parade from Clark Street to Brisbane Road, Biggera Waters • Gold Coast Hwy from Brisbane Road, to Broad Street, Labrador • Frank Street from Broad Street, Labrador to Loders Creek Bridge, Labrador • Gold Coast Highway from Loders Creek Bridge, Labrador to Ada Bell Way, Southport SUNDAY ROAD CLOSURES: 4.00am to 2pm Full road closure of the Sundale Bridge, Southport from 0700hrs to 0730hrs as required under the direction of Police. Partial road closure of the following Northern roads: • Gold Coast Highway, Southport from Ada Bell Way including Sundale Bridge southbound to intersection of Waterways Drive, Main Beach (Northbound lanes will be two way.)
