One issue the county has been trying to address for many years is the construction of a new animal shelter. Numerous advocates, including myself, have been urging the county to build a new shelter. Apart from its dilapidated state, the present facility does address current or projected capacity, and fails to meet national standards for humanely housing shelter animals. There are numerous pork-barrel projects in this county, but this is not one of them. Please vote at the upcoming BOC meeting this Tuesday for proceeding to approve the RFP that has been recommended by Interim CEO May.
