Important event next Tuesday, December 9 at the Irish Centre of Poetry Studies...all welcome To honour John Devitt RIP, former Head of English at Mater Dei Institute and a brilliant close reader of poetry, the Irish Centre for Poetry Studies holds an annual seminar at which an invited speaker discusses a poem of their choice. Audiences are encouraged to engage actively in these sessions, which are open to all. This year’s seminar will be led by Dr Tara Stubbs of the University of Oxford. Ireland never took my fancy less than now: enchantment and disenchantment in Marianne Moores Spensers Ireland and its draft versions —Dr TARA STUBBS (Oxford) Discommodity makes them invisible; they’ve dis- appeared. The Irish say your trouble is their trouble and your joy their joy? I wish I could believe it; I am troubled, I’m dissatisfied, I’m Irish. The seminar will be followed by the launch of two books, Dr Stubbs’s American Literature and Irish Culture, 1910-1955: the Politics of Enchantment, and Dr Alex Runchman’s Delmore Schwartz; A Critical Reappraisal The event will also mark the publication of issue V of POST: A Review of Poetry Studies: Imagining Italy. We at The Irish Centre for Poetry Studies look forward to seeing you there. Email Michael Hinds with any enquiries: [email protected]
