The gifts of the Spirit were given “for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect [complete, mature] man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ . . . speaking the truth in love, [that we] may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ” (Ephesians 4:12–13, 15). A church where Charismatic Gifts in all their wonder and variety are not in evidence is something less than the Church founded at Pentecost (Donald Bloesch). Practice your gift because you will never be released to speak into the language of cultures like Joseph did to pharaohs until you practice on butlers and bakers in the bottom of a prison in obscurity without any promotion. We need to release the gifts of the Spirit because we are carrying somebodys breakthrough, healing and miracle! 5. The gifts are not so we can be entertained, but they extend and reveal the kingdom and must be used to reach the world. 6. Since the Holy Spirit is the one who shows or manifests God’s presence in the world, it is not surprising that Paul calls spiritual gifts ‘manifestations’ of the Holy Spirit (I Cor. 12:7). The gifts are another indication of the presence of God in the Church” 7. We are told to covet the best gifts! (1 Cor 12:30) Every gift is available to the believer. We just need to desire the best gift for the divine opportunity. 8. The gifts are treasures because they are a manifestation of the Holy Spirit and can not be separated from his person or presence. 9. We need to desire spiritual gifts because we long for God’s people to be built up and encouraged, consoled and pleasing to him (1 Corinthians 14:3) 10. We need the Gifts of the Spurit because God commands it (1 Corinthians 12:31; 14:1, 39). In fact, God tells us, “Do not forbid speaking in tongues” (1 Corinthians 14:39) and, “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies” (1 Thessalonians 5:19–20). Remember All these [gifts] are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills” (I Corinthians 12:11, ESV). We simply are vessels that receive his Grace and we must make ourselves available and intentional about the Gifts. The greater we pursue and let love overflow in our hearts the more the Holy Spirit will trust and enable us with his gifts. Todd Bentley
