Seneca In the Balance PRESS CONFERENCE UPDATE: Over 100 Business Owners in the region have said that they plan to attend the press conference at 6:00 pm, preceding the” Seneca in the Balance” Community Forum slated for Tuesday, March 11th at the Watkins Glen High School. The list of attendees reads like a Whos Who in the wine and tourism industry and includes Doug Hazlitt, co-owner Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards, Louis Barroul of France, who has recently launched Forge Wine Cellars, Michael Warren Thomas, host of “The Grapevine” radio show, who will read a statement on behalf of Paul Hobbs and Johannes Selbach (Hobbs, called “the Steve Jobs of wine” by Forbes Magazine, is from California and has recently purchased 67 acres of land for a vineyard on the East side of Seneca with his partner, Selbach, from the Mosel Region in Germany), Dr. Franks great granddaughter Meaghan Frank, a representative from Hermann Weimer, Gene Pierce from Glenora Wine Cellars and Chateau Lafayette Reneau, Ted Marks of Atwater Vineyards, Scott Osborn of Fox Run, Sam Argetsinger of Argestinger Vineyards, Lou Damiani and Phil Davis of Damiani Wine Cellars, Tina and Eric Hazlitt of Sawmill Creek Vineyards, Will Ouweleen of Eagle Crest Vineyards, Joyce Hunt from Hunt country Vineyards, Dave Whiting from Red Newt Wine Cellars and Bistro, and many, many more. Cuomo to oppose project Watkins Glen, NY – As state and federal officials consider a pair of plans to convert century-old salt caverns into a massive gas storage facility near Seneca Lake, concerned citizens and experts will gather for a public forum, titled Seneca in the Balance, on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 7 to 9 pm. All local, regional and statewide elected officials received formal invitations and will be offered VIP seating at the Forum. A press conference, featuring prominent local business leaders opposed to the projects, will precede the forum, beginning at 6 pm sharp. Food and beverage will be provided to attendees of the conference, including the press, from 5-6:00 pm. Individual interviews with the business owners will be available before and after the press conference. Crestwood subsidiary Inergy Midstream has told shareholders and the SEC that it wants to turn the Finger Lakes Region into a fracked gas storage and transport hub for the Northeast. The company is proposing to store up to 5 million barrels of propane and butane, and initial plans call for expansion of natural gas storage to 2 billion cubic feet in unlined salt caverns alongside Seneca Lake. The plans are currently awaiting approval by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), respectively.
