Important reminders in light of election day tomorrow: 1. VOTING IS IMPORTANT. Our ancestors did not fight and die for democracy so we could sit at home and not let our voices be heard. 2. In some countries a military presence is necessary for a democratic vote. In America, you will likely be handed a ballot by a friendly retired person and given a sticker on your way out. 3. Dont believe the lies that your vote doesnt count! While it is true that in presidential elections (at least in Alabama) your vote is more symbolic than effective, in local elections your vote is EVERYTHING. 4. A distrust of the political system isnt a reason to not vote. Apathy is a cause of corruption, not a solution. Even if you cant vote FOR someone, theres always someone to vote against. I have my own list I will freely share. 5. If you dont vote, youre less entitled to complain about politics (and to wear American flag shorts on the Fourth of July). As the old adage goes, better is one vote in the ballot box than two angry Facebook statuses. Or something like that. 6. Since youre seeing this today, youve got a whole day to research candidates. No longer is I dont know enough an excuse. This is a good opportunity to use the internet for more than cat pictures and Netflix. Happy midterms, yall!
