“Imprisoning information?” - Access to information - activism, advocacy and skill-sharing workshop 20th September 2013 – 1pm - 5 pm @ Flat Out, 52 Pin Oak Crescent, Flemington The Imprisoning information workshop aims to share and empower participants in relation to: • The strategies of accessing information for diverse individual and systemic advocacy, activist and campaigning purposes; • Examining information access in advocacy, campaigning and litigation over the last twenty years and reflecting on the lessons learnt, unlearnt and emerging strategies; • Using the Victorian and Commonwealth Freedom of Information Acts in practical and activist ways; • Utilising activist research strategies in combination with legal, media and campaigning strategies; • Will focus on practical strategies for accessing personal institutional information and the importance of supported disclosure; • The session will also focus on accessing information from and about: o Prisons; o Police; o Immigration detention; o Mental health custody; o Deaths in custody; o Private prisons and immigration detention corporations. Who should attend? People engaged in individual and systemic self and co-advocacy, activists, campaigners, activist researchers and archivists, community media.
