Imran asks workers to foil rigging in by-polls... Faizan Bangash Reported in The News... LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf chairman Imran Khan has urged party workers to make an all-out effort to win the by-elections in Lahore and foil all tactics of the ruling party. Addressing a meeting of his party stalwarts from Lahore in connection with preparations for the by-polls scheduled for August 22 in Lahore, Imran advised his party workers to speed up the mass contact campaign without any delay and rejuvenate the party workers. He said the workers should show greater enthusiasm than in the May 11 general elections in which the “PTI mandate was hijacked through rigging”. The meeting was also attended by PTI Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry, General Secretary and ticket holder from NA-120, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Lahore President Abdul Aleem Khan, Mian Hamid Meraj, former MNA Sardar Kamil Umer, MPA Aslam Iqbal and others. Imran Khan also stressed the need for deployment of the army in and outside the polling stations and added that the stance of the Punjab government on the issue reflected pre-poll rigging. The PTI chairman said the PML-N government had been exposed within three months of its tenure and its failure was obvious in all sectors, including power, law and order. He directed the Lahore organisation to extend complete support to the PTI candidates and asked it to come up with completely trained polling staff, keeping in mind a possible rigging plan of the government.Imran said he would soon announce his schedule for addressing the election rallies. “The PTI is committed to transferring power to the masses in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the local government system in the province will prove it,” he said and called for devolution of power in the Punjab. The PTI Lahore leaders also briefed the PTI chairman about preparations for the August 22 by-elections. Polls will be held on four seats, including NA-129, PP-142, PP-161 and PP-150. Dr Yasmin Rashid also briefed the party chairman about the mobilisation of women workers for the polls. From NA-129, Mansha Sindhu, a three-time MPA and runner-up in the recent general elections, is a candidate. Mehr Wajid, a runner-up from PP-161, will contest again on the PTI ticket and sources said the party was hopeful of an upset on the seat where the PML-N was likely to field Mian Marghub. From PP-142, the seat vacated by Hamza Shahbaz of the PML-N, the PTI has fielded Malik Waqar whereas Khalid Gujjer is contesting from PP-161. The PTI Punjab leadership will also address a press conference on Monday over apprehensions of pre-poll rigging.
