In 1887 Harvey Ellis signed on as a draftsman and designer in Leroy S. Buffington’s architectural office. His architectural renderings had already prompted interest in a new style of presentation – and his work for Buffington and others may have revolutionized the way architects drew and painted these presentation renderings. These “presentation renderings”, created for the purpose of “selling” the design to a prospective client, are often seen as works of art that stand on their own. Drawings, paintings and sketches by Harvey Ellis are very much in that category – so we’ve selected a few from our Leroy S. Buffington Papers to celebrate the fine art of building.
