In 1893, President Grover Cleveland signed a proclamation to assign the 30th day of November as a day of giving thanks –Thanksgiving. The same year the Columbian Exposition illuminated the Chicago lakefront, Dr. H.H. Holmes infamous Hotel was complete, and he opened the doors to the “Murder Castle.” The irony: Proclaiming a day of thanks the same day the gates of Hell were unlocked and Holmes began his reign of murderous terror.
